Team Handbook
Brace Family Swim Team Family Code of Conduct
The purpose of a code of conduct for athletes and their guardians is to establish a consistent expectation for behaviors.
❏ Swimmers should respect and show courtesy to teammates and coaches at all times.
❏ Swimmers should demonstrate good sportsmanship at all practices and meets.
❏ Swimmers should set a good example of behavior and work ethic for younger teammates.
❏ Swimmers should be respectful of teammates’ feelings and personal space. There will be zero toleration for athletes who exhibit inappropriate behavior on deck, in the pool, or while in the locker rooms.
❏ Swimmers should attend all team meetings and training sessions, unless excused by their coach.
❏ Swimmers should show respect for all facilities and other property (including locker
rooms) used during practices, competitions, and team activities.
❏ Swimmers are to remain in swim team designated areas at all times.
❏ Swimmers should refrain from foul language, violence, behavior deemed dishonest,
offensive, or illegal.
❏ If a swimmer disagrees with an official’s call, they should talk with their coach and not approach officials directly.
❏ Swimmers should obey the YMCA of Greater Charlotte’s rules and codes of conduct.
As a parent/guardian, I understand the important growth and developmental support that my child’s participation fosters. I also understand that it is essential to provide the coaching staff with respect and the authority to coach the team.
o Setting the right example for our children by demonstrating sportsmanship and showing respect and common courtesy at all times to the team members, coaches, competitors, officials, parents, and all facilities.
o Volunteering, observing practices, cheering at meets, and talking with my child and their coach about their progress are all ways to be involved with my swimmer’s progress.
o Please refrain from coaching your swimmer from the stands during practices or meets.
o Please understand that criticizing, name-calling, use of abusive language or gestures
directed toward coaches, officials, volunteers, and/or any participating swimmer will not
be tolerated.
o Please respect the integrity of the coaches and officials.
o Please direct concerns to first to your Head Coach, then if needed, to the appropriate
supervisor/Aquatic Director.
o Please continue to support and promote the values of good character including hard
work, integrity, and teamwork. In addition, display the five core YMCA values of the
Brace Family Y: Respect, Responsibility, Honesty, Caring and Faith.
